Armagh stars held their first ever game this past Sunday 18th at the Armagh tech sports hall. On the day they welcomed Enniskillen team Erne Eagles. This was a tremendous occasion for the club which has only been in existence since November 2006. A strong crowd of supporters turned up to cheer on the stars in their first ever game, and they where treated to a very entertaining game.
Playing against an experienced erne team the Armagh squad fielded 6 players making their inline hockey debut. In a wide open game the Eagles took the lead shortly after 7 minutes. The Stars responded quickly with Neill Black levelling things on 9 minutes. Both teams traded goals then with the score at the end of the first period being 3:2 to the eagles. Simon Laverty getting the Stars 2nd goal.
Period 3 saw the eagle take a 3 goal lead. The stars then got back into the game on a shorthanded goal by Stephen Lynch.
Colin Williamson then scored his first ever goal to make the score 6:4 at the end of the 2nd Period
The stars started the 3rd period fast with a Neill Black goal 20seconds into the period. The eagles then responded with two unanswered goals to make it 8:5. Simon Laverty scored a power play goal with 5 minutes remaining in the game, however, a late eagle’s goal sealed the game to finish 9:6.
An excellent first ever game for the stars, which players and spectators thoroughly enjoyed. It was another big step for the club, and they look forward now to future games, and the clubs first ever Jnr game. Anyone interested in trying the sport is welcome each Sunday 3:30 -6:30 at the sports hall in Armagh Tech.
