
The Armagh Stars Inline Hockey club began their new schools outreach program in the Armstrong Primary School on Tuesday the 15 th . A new initiative by the club designed to raise awareness of the sport among school children, and about the existence of the Armagh club, in the hope that more youngsters will get involved in the sport.
5 players from the Stars club took time out of their working schedule to take part in the schools demonstration, and educate the primary 6 and primary 7 pupils and their teachers of what Inline hockey is all about.
At present the club has a senior team in competitive league action as well as a junior team competing in the u-12 Northern Ireland league.
After an introduction by the players, some of the children in attendance were given the chance to try score past the stars heavily padded goalie and student teacher Miss Shields was brave enough to put on a pair of skates and take part in a mini game with the stars players much to the delight of the students in attendance.
The club is hosting an open day on Saturday the 26 th April in the Armagh Tech sports hall. From 10am – 12. Any children interested in trying out the sport for the first time are encouraged to come along for the morning where they will be given an introduction to the sport. All that is required is a pair of skates, although any padding equipment such as bicycle knee pads etc is also recommended.
Normal club training times are Sunday afternoon's (Jnr) 3:30 - 5pm and (Snr) 5pm- 6:30pm
